Haitian president Jovenel Moise went to Pont Rouge on October 17 2018 as part of the commemoration of the death of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, one of the forefathers of Haitian independence.
Dessalines was assassinated at Pont Larnage (now known as Pont-Rouge) north of the capital cityof Port-au-Prince on 17 October 1806.
President Jovenel went to Pont-Rouge to deposit a wreath of flowers for the Emperor.

"Haiti does not face a problem of energy production," President Jovenel said. "You can buy 1000 megawatts of electricity if you want."
"The real challenge lies in distribution. The electricity grid in the metropolitan area, stretching from Cote-des-Arcadins to Leogane, was built to serve 300,000 people. Today, nearly 4 million people live in this space. 80% of these 45 circuits in this network are not working properly. That said, this network needs to be renovated."
The Haitian government decided to repair Port-de-Paix hospital immediately after the earthquake
The Haitian government decided to repait the Hospital in Port-de-Paix almost immediately after the earthquake hit the city on October 6 2018.
In order to improve the quality of services, President Jovenel Moise said, the Government will repair the Hospital in the city of Port-de-Paix pending construction of another modern hospital for the Department.
