President Jovenel Moise, President Tsai Ing-Wen, Haiti and Taiwan strengthen bilateral cooperation
Port-au-Prince, Saturday, July 13, 2019.- The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Jovenel Moïse, received on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the National Palace, his Taiwanese counterpart, HE Tsai Ing-wen, visiting Haiti.
After a bilateral meeting attended by Prime Minister Jean Michel Lapin, some members of the government, the ambassador of Taiwan in Port-au-Prince, as well as Taiwanese officials, the two Heads of State held a meeting. press release on the state of play of cooperation between the two countries.
President Tsai Ing-wen thanked the Haitian Head of State for this invitation and welcomed the welcome extended to the Taiwanese delegation. While recalling that Haiti is the first stage of her Caribbean tour, since her inauguration, she took the opportunity to thank President Jovenel Moïse, as well as his wife, the First Lady, Martine Moïse, who accompanied her at the opening of the Taiwan 2019 products exhibition, in the Mupanah Gardens.
Passing the greetings of the Taiwanese people to Haitians, Ms. Ing-wen has gone through a few projects, such as the donation of rice seeds to the Haitian government in order to contribute to food self-sufficiency in Haiti, in the overall implementation of the Goals. of Sustainable Development (SDG) of the United Nations. She also highlighted the possibility of developing further areas of cooperation in the future, be it in education, trade, infrastructure, etc.
Congratulating President Jovenel Moïse on Haiti's efforts for development, Ms. Ing-wen expressed her strong wishes for political and social stability in Haiti. As a friend and faithful partner of Haiti, the Republic of Taiwan, according to its President, will accompany Haiti on the path of development. She ended her remarks by recalling that her visit could help strengthen exchanges and bilateral cooperation between Haiti and Taiwan.
The head of the Haitian State, for his part, spoke of several projects in progress in the country, including seed centers developed with support from Taiwan, at the level of the departments of the Northeast, the Artibonite; not to mention nearly twenty (20) solar pumping systems that will irrigate about two thousand (2,000) hectares of land, across the departments of Northeast, North, Artibonite, Northwest, Nippes and from South.
Later, he also highlighted the project of electrification (in progress) of 51 cities in the country, as well as the construction of the metropolitan electricity network extending from Bois-Neuf to Leogane.
Five (5) other projects are in perspective in five (5) different areas, according to President Jovenel Moïse. These are projects in the field of road infrastructure, agriculture, mass transit projects, affordable housing, and a transhipment port in northwestern Haiti.
In the framework of this bilateral meeting, the Haitian Head of State discussed, with HE Tsai Ing-wen, the political stability in Haiti which is the first of the public goods, because, according to President Jovenel Moïse, "without the serenity, peace and tranquility in the minds, the realization of these projects is impossible.
